What is rush?

"Rush" or "Recruitment" is the process by which fraternities and sororities find new members. Rush is typically a week-long period where the organizations hold events so that you can get a sample of fraternity life. Members of the organizations want to get to know you, and we want you to get to know us.

At the end of rush, the Greek organizations select new members. The people make the Fraternity, so new members really are the lifeblood of any Greek organization. Rush is the time when you, as a student, have a chance to step up and begin deciding how you want to shape your college experience.

When can I rush Lambda Chi Alpha?

We hold rush events every year in the fall and again in the spring. The rush period is typically during the first few days of class. Wake Forest policy does not permit freshman to rush until the spring semester. If you have questions, please contact our rush chair.

You don't have to be a freshman to rush Lambda Chi Alpha; however, our brothers will tell you that the earlier you become a member, the more you will get out of the experience.

Does it cost anything to rush?

IFC has a $15 registration fee, but that is the only cost. Our rush events are absolutely free. Secondly, you don't have to commit to attending all of the rush events. We encourage our brothers to get involved in other activities, so we understand that you may have scheduling conflicts.

Where are you guys located?

Our lounge and housing block are in the corner of Davis House that faces toward Scales Fine Arts Center.

What is a "smoker?"

A smoker is essentially an open house. We usually have one at the beginning of rush. Smokers allow you the chance to meet the members of a fraternity, to meet local alumni, and to check out our lounge space.

I don't want to join a fraternity. Can I still come to rush events?

Absolutely. All we ask is that you keep an open mind about fraternities and all that we can offer. If you fall in this category, we hope that you'll ask lots of questions about why Lambda Chi Alpha is a great experience. The vast majority of our members did not consider themselves "fraternity types," and had no intentions of joining a fraternity when they first came to Wake Forest. They found out that we aren't at all like the stereotypes. We're out to meet new friends first and foremost, so come on out.

What is a bid?

A bid is simply an invitation to join the fraternity. They are handed out at the end of the rush period to men who have demonstrated interest in the fraternity and the qualities that we look for in new members.

How do I get a bid?

Start by coming to rush and meeting the brothers. Better yet, get in contact with us before rush so that we can get to know you. Have fun, enjoy yourself, and ask questions.
